Being inspired...

As I write this I am watching Sklayr Brandt perform her debut as Odette, Act II from Swan Lake.

The sheer joy and ability to create these movements are from over a decade of training and you can honestly tell how much she loves it.

There are literally thousands of dancers in the world, right now currently working hard to perfect their craft, and many thousands more who simply dance for fun.

I am one of those dancers, the one for fun, the one who knows the expectation of what a 50 year old body can really do. Having people to inspire to, the teachers that share their love of dance is sometimes more than the actual ability of being able to " throw a leg "

So enjoy whatever form of dance you do, and inspire someone else to love the freedom of movement, simply for joy.....

Bespoke for a reason....

When I started my company a little over 3 years ago now, I found that there was a lot lacking in the adult dancewear department. There was so many boring leotards and so many companies simply just copying what each other are doing. So after speaking to many different types of people, I discovered what so many companies are not doing...

Firstly, size for our more voluptuous ladies was a major problem followed by the lack of anything with a cap or long sleeve.

For many woman, a cap or mid to long sleeve can be the difference between wearing their Leo confidently or wearing a mesh or cotton wrap over it to cover their arms.

What is the point of buying a pretty Leo only to cover it up with a wrap ?

So the answer is quite simple, don't.

I personally create each and every single Leo by designing a pattern to start with, starting with lines that accentuate features and then adding the choice of sleeves, no sleeves, low backs or high necks.

Then I research fabrics, sourcing ones for longevity, the fabrics that are able to modify temperature and last but not least choosing beautiful colours and for each style that I know compliment each other.

Being a successful salon owner of Kris Henson Hairdressing of over 37 years, choosing colour comes extremely naturally to me. Blending tones and textures is what makes for a beautiful garment.

I have a great ability to be able to talk to people about what they would like to accentuate on their body, like long legs, or arms etc, and maybe how to hide the not so happy features.

That is exactly how a bespoke dancewear line works.

The accuracy is set to the sizing chart so if your body measurement doesn't fall within this, simply send me your body measurements. This is what makes my company unique.

When measuresed correctly, with only having hips , waist, bust and full torso measurement , I can design for you any Leo that is in my range. If you would like sleeves, then just add that measurement as well.

Oh your Leo is gorgeous !!!!

That is mostly what I hear when I wear my gorgeous dance wear in ballet class.

Honestly, I do lol ! Not me personally, haha, but my dance wear....

I started my little business 3 years ago, after deciding to take my first ballet class since I was a child,

and wanted to buy myself some dancewear.

After navigating through a few dance wear shops ( no names mentioned of course lol )

I discovered that most of the Leo for adults were pretty boring ...

So, I thought, ok time to get out the sewing machine and make myself something to wear.

From the moment of my first class, I had orders coming in. This was quite surprising , as I had only made costumes and and dancewear for my 3 children, so the thought of making bespoke dancewear for other people never occurred to me. To be honest, I'm still a little humbled at the thought of it now.

So thank you to everyone so far that has supported me in the ballet community , and here's to the next few years of exciting bespoke dancewear....
